On August 6, 2026, the federal government officially signed new Section 232 trade measures affecting polysilicon and its derivatives, including materials, solar cells, and solar modules used throughout the solar industry.
While the new federal measures are scheduled to take effect later this year, solar equipment manufacturers are not waiting until then to increase their pricing.
Following the announcement, EDGE Energy’s manufacturers contacted us directly and informed us that equipment prices will be increasing as they prepare for the new tariffs.
For homeowners considering solar, the takeaway is simple:
Waiting could mean paying more for the same solar system.
What Are the New Section 232 Tariffs?
Polysilicon is a foundational material used to manufacture solar cells and modules. The new Section 232 action is intended to strengthen domestic manufacturing and reduce U.S. reliance on foreign supply chains.
The action establishes minimum import prices across several parts of the solar supply chain, including:
- $21 per kilogram for polysilicon
- $100 per kilogram for polysilicon ingots and wafers
- $0.22 per watt for solar cells
- $0.38 per watt for solar modules
Additional tariffs may apply depending on the product, its country of origin, and its import price.
While strengthening domestic manufacturing could benefit the U.S. solar industry over time, the immediate impact is expected to be higher equipment costs throughout the solar supply chain.
Manufacturers Are Increasing Prices Now
This is the most important part for homeowners.
The federal measures taking effect later this year does not mean homeowners have until then to secure today’s solar pricing.
Manufacturers have to make purchasing, production, inventory, and supply-chain decisions well before the new measures officially take effect.
That process has already started.
EDGE Energy has been contacted directly by our solar equipment manufacturers and informed that they are preparing to increase equipment pricing immediately.
We expect these increases to begin reaching the market very soon.
Once manufacturers and distributors increase what they charge us for equipment, our solar system pricing will have to reflect those higher costs.
How Much Will Solar Prices Increase?
At this point, we don’t know.
Different manufacturers may increase their prices by different amounts based on their supply chains, manufacturing locations, inventory, and exposure to the new trade measures.
Because our manufacturers ultimately control what we pay for this equipment, EDGE Energy does not want to speculate about exactly how much system prices will change.
What we do know is that manufacturers have told us directly that price increases are coming.
A homeowner could potentially install the same number of panels, with the same equipment, on the same home and pay more simply because the equipment itself has become more expensive to procure.
Current EDGE Energy Pricing Is Still Pre-Section 232 Pricing
As of right now, EDGE Energy’s solar pricing has not yet been adjusted to reflect these upcoming manufacturer increases.
We cannot guarantee how long that will remain the case.
We are awaiting updated costs from our manufacturers and distributors. Once those costs increase, our system pricing will have to change accordingly.
That’s why homeowners should not look at the federal implementation date and assume there is plenty of time to wait.
Our manufacturers are already preparing their increases now.
